The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls

I love finding an older book that somehow I overlooked years before. How could I not have know or heard about The Glass Castle, a true story of growing up in a very poor and deprived family? But with all their hardships this is not a sad story, but one of survival that is balanced with a rich education and love and appreciation for beauty and wonder found in a simple thing like a rock. While their Mother and Father were total unsuited to raise children, the children all had a rich core of intelligence, beliefs, love of art and music, and the knowledge that we each control our destiny. I really love this book.
